The son of a South Carolina sharecropper, 60-year-old Will Allen is founder of the Milwaukee-based nonprofit Growing Power, which has become a model for city-center agriculture. The former NBA draft pick started Growing Power to make good, clean produce easy to find and affordable to buy in the middle of urban areas, where fresh fruit and vegetables are scarce.
