A proposal from the Senate’s so-called "Gang of Six" has injected some new life into efforts to raise the debt ceiling and settle on a package of spending cuts that would pass both chambers. Senate Budget Committee chairman and Gang of Six member Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) joined us from Capitol Hill to discuss the proposal.

For weeks now, the debt ceiling talks have been going on behind closed doors. The negotiations have been conducted by a tiny group of legislative leaders and President Obama's top aides. Ezra Klein of The Washington Post gives an update on where negotiations now stand.

Hanging over the GOP is the public perception that they’re unwilling to compromise during debt negotiations. And lately, the added twist has been rumors of inner conflict within its top leadership. Robert Costa of the National Review offers his insights on the matter.

From baseball to golf, sports commentator George Johnson gives us a look into the world of sports in his weekly sports drill.

Best known for her work on FOX’s In Living Color, T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh is now serving as co-chair for the 2011 National Black Theatre Festival. The event will run from August 1-6 in Winston-Salem, NC. Click here for more about the festival.
