With today’s program, The Tavis Smiley Show starts its new two-hour format. We begin with a rebroadcast of “After the Emancipation Proclamation”, a conversation on the current state of Black America recorded to mark the 150th anniversary of the historic document.

Recorded last summer before an audience at Stanford University, a panel of experts, educators, and speakers  considered the significance of President Lincoln’s proclamation, discussed other forms of modern-day slavery, and the opportunities to convert awareness into action.

In our second hour, we rebroadcast highlights of our televised event, “Latino Nation: Beyond The Numbers”. Hosted in partnership with the William C. Velásquez Institute, “Latino Nation” panelists examined a full range of Latino influence on American life, from the economy and healthcare to education and immigration, as well as solutions for economic growth in this vital community.
