Our  first hour is devoted to a special conversation: Is Free Speech Really Free? Two panels of lawyers, scholars, activists and entertainers join us for a discussion of free speech in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo massacres in Paris and the hacking attack on Sony Pictures.

Our panelists for Part One are publisher  Larry Flynt, comedian and author Maz Jobrani, and Peter Eliasberg, legal director of the ACLU of Southern California. For Part Two, our panelists are comedian and actress Roseanne BarrHussam Ayloush, executive director of the Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and Sonali Kolhatkar, host of  “Uprising” on KPFK Pacifica radio in Los Angeles.

Jorge Ramos, anchorman for the Spanish-language network Univision and for Fusion TV, shares his views on immigration policy and what to expect from Congress and the White House.

“Bosch”, a new series based on the Harry Bosch crime novels, premieres in February. Michael Connelly, the author who created the fictional homicide detective, and actor Titus Welliver, who portrays the title character in the series, join us.

World-renowned jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon joins us to talk about her latest work, “The Clothesline Muse,” a new play currently touring the country that she wrote, composed and arranged.

“Whiplash” has earned five Oscar nominations, despite being filmed in only 19 days on a budget of just $3 million. The film’s director, Damien Chazelle, joins us with the unlikely story of its success.
