From Roswell, N.M. to the JFK assassination to President Obama’s birthplace, America has no shortage of conspiracy theories. While these narratives are often dismissed as the ideas of paranoid crackpots, they are actually quite common. In his new book, “The United States of Paranoia”, Jesse Walker, senior editor at “Reason” magazine, explains why conspiracy theories have always been part of our national identity.
