The leaders of 15 Caribbean nations are moving forward with a plan to seek reparations for centuries of slavery and brutal colonial rule. They argue that the current underdevelopment of the Caribbean is a direct effect of the slave trade, and that descendants of enslaved Africans should be compensated for present-day injustices. Jonathan Holloway, chair of the African American studies department at Yale University, writes about the demands of the 15 nations in an article in “Foreign Affairs” magazine and joins us to discuss the details.
